As a subforum in Chat could we have a Current Events/Politics discussion forum? I'll miss that about AT. *sigh*... I was secretly hoping this would never come up... but here goes my carefully thought out answer...Honestly, I won't make a sub-forum for it. If there is a specific thing or current event you wish to discuss, a thread on open chat for each thing should be fine... I will however say proceed with extreme caution: These days politics are VERY polarizing, and instead of talking about ideas, facts, and politely agreeing to disagree, it always (very quickly) devolves into mud-slinging from all sides. Think about how starting threads like that could potentially snowball quickly and damage your relationships with people you interact with on the forum otherwise peacefully. Even if they do not reply to your thread or post they could read it, and feelings could be hurt and relationships strained. Do you really want to invite something that divisive into your life and on to this forum? Especially in a community that's so small and so diverse? Do we really need to find reasons to divide ourselves further? Personally, I don't think so, and you'll very likely never find me engaging in political chat. It also goes without saying I will immediately lock down threads and ban people that engage in willful mudslinging, baiting, and trolling. Not here, not on my watch. I think you've leapt to some pretty terrible conclusions about my intentions. I do not engage in the kind of discussions you've described and I don't appreciate the associations you've ascribed to my simple request (on a request thread!) regarding mudslinging, baiting, and trolling. You could have merely said No, not here.

You could have merely said No, not here. It wasn't meant to be an attack on you, merely an explanation of her thought process as to why those boards won't be included. Some people can take a simple "no" and be done, but others might question why that decision was made. They're not accusations, but merely foresight as to what tends to happen within such boards.

I just know how prickly politics boards boards are, even if well intentioned. And even just thinking about it made me a tad prickly too. It was more a general word of caution to whomever might be thinking of posting about politics. I'll try to be a little more gentle and thoughtful in my replies in the future, especially ones that could be construed as directed at any one person. You're of course always welcome to create threads on current events and such in open chat. We'll revisit a board in the future, but I don't believe the one in AT was busy enough to warrant an entire board here. Anywho... This is a learning experience for everyone, myself included. I hope you'll accept my apology.

I asked for the -possibility- of a subforum (to keep it quartered). You said political debates and discussions -always- end up to mudslinging and divisiveness. I don't engage in mudslinging and divisiveness, not to mention baiting and trolling, when I talk about politics, current events, or opinions. I thought you might have known me at least a little bit from AT so I was taken aback. I accept your apology but want to be clear about what I thought just happened.

I think the chat threads over at AT were often about politics in a roundabout way...mostly of the 'OMG did Trump really just do x y and z?' variety. Tbh I don't think we have to worry that much, I can't remember any nastiness, in fact most of it was group-hug-supportive stuff against our Political Overlords!

Ideas: If possible, let members select some other gender than male or female in their profile. Possible options could be other and unspecified. Could the Runes forum be also an Ogham forum: Runes & Ogham. They are both old European alphabets, are connected to European pagan cultures, and I believe that people use them similarly. People cast lots, although there are also divination decks with rune or ogham symbolism. I want an I Ching (Yijing) forum. I should advance my goal by starting some Yijing threads (grins like a Cheshire Cat). I like the moderation system of Ecauldron forum, where a moderator announces that they act as a moderator, and places the moderation message in a box. (Example one, two.) The system makes clear whether the moderator posts as an ordinary board member, or uses the moderator powers and responsibility.
